Citron Hygiene and Aunt Flow donate 100,000 period products through Youth Sport Trust

In a significant step towards menstrual equity and promoting inclusivity in sport, Citron Hygiene and Aunt Flow have partnered with the Youth Sport Trust, donating 100,000 sanitary products to 139 Girls Active programmes across the UK.

The importance of this donation is quite meaningful, particularly in light of data regarding girls’ involvement in sport across the UK. Research indicates a marked decrease in sport participation among girls during puberty, with menstruation-related concerns frequently mentioned as a substantial reason. The discomfort and societal stigma associated with menstruation, along with inadequate access to sanitary products, have unfortunately caused some to step back from sport—a realm where they not only thrive physically but also gain mental and social advantages.

Citron Hygiene and Aunt Flow, both leading organisations in menstrual hygiene and the menstrual movement, have recognised this gap and are taking proactive steps to ensure that menstruation does not stand in the way of any girl’s sport dreams. Aunt Flow has established a social impact programme so that purchases of Aunt Flow period products fund donations to organisations and programmes that serve those in need of free products. Purchases of Aunt Flow period products in the UK fuel donations in the UK. This donation is set to make a substantial impact, embodying the principle that no child should have to miss out on sport or school due to their period.

The Youth Sport Trust, an established charity committed to keeping children engaged in sport, has been at the forefront of this battle through its Girls Active programme. This programme aims to provide girls with a safe and supportive environment to participate in sport, helping them navigate the challenges of puberty and adolescence without losing their zeal for physical activity. By integrating the donation from Citron Hygiene and Aunt Flow, the Trust is enhancing its capacity to support young girls, ensuring they have the necessary resources to continue their activities without interruption.

The partnership between Citron Hygiene, Aunt Flow, and the Youth Sport Trust is a model of how organisations can come together to tackle societal issues that affect youth participation in sport. By addressing the menstrual equity gap, they are not only providing immediate relief through the donation of sanitary products but are also contributing to a broader conversation about the importance of inclusivity and support for girls in sport. This initiative is a step towards removing barriers and creating a more equitable sports culture where every child, regardless of gender or biological challenges, can participate freely and confidently.

Citron Hygiene’s and Aunt Flow’s commitment goes beyond a one-off donation; for every 10 period products purchased, one is donated to Girls Active programmes. This sustainable approach ensures that the initiative has a lasting impact, supporting countless young girls across the UK to stay in sport, improve their well-being, and pursue their passions without hindrance.

As we celebrate this partnership and its positive impact on young athletes, it’s a reminder of the power of collaboration and the importance of addressing all barriers to sport participation. By ensuring that girls have access to the necessary sanitary products, Citron Hygiene, Aunt Flow, and the Youth Sport Trust are paving the way for a more inclusive and supportive sports environment for all.
