Newcastle upon Tyne, often shortened to simply Newcastle, is the most populous city and metropolitan borough in North East England. It is situated on the northern bank of the River Tyne, approximately 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea Newcastle's economy includes corporate headquarters, learning, digital technology, retail, tourism, and cultural centres, from which the city contributes £13 billion towards the United Kingdom's Gross Value Added (GVA)
Newcastle played a major role during the 19th-century Industrial Revolution, and was a leading centre for coal mining, shipbuilding, engineering, munitions and manufacturing. Heavy industries in Newcastle declined in the second half of the 20th century; with office, service and retail employment now becoming the city's staples.
In 2010, Newcastle was positioned ninth in the retail centre expenditure league of the UK and there are several major shopping areas in Newcastle City Centre.
The move to the 5,287 sq ft unit on Newburn Riverside, which completed in October 2019, is Citron’s first expansion into the northeast of the UK. Citron Hygiene has invested significant funds into the new premises which will employ a team of 21 staff made up of drivers, salespeople and service centre staff, to deliver its managed hygiene services to thousands of customers in the surrounding areas from a diverse range of sectors including restaurants, bars, retail and the public sector.
