World Environment Day is organised by the United Nations with the purpose of increasing awareness about the importance of caring for our environment and subsequently inspiring action to bring about change. The first World Environment Day was held in 1974, and since then this yearly event has gone from strength-to-strength.
Each year has a different focus, the theme for 2018 was to beat plastic pollution in our oceans. Every year 8 million metric tons of plastic enter our oceans, meaning plastic pollution is a real problem. This may be the main environmental issue highlighted by this year’s event, but overall World Environment Day is focused on encouraging people to do something positive to take care of our planet.
There is a lot you can do as a company to help care for the Earth. It is important for businesses to take corporate social responsibility seriously and have policies in place to ensure that you are doing everything you can to limit your company’s negative impact on the environment.

Save Energy, Save Money & Save Our Planet
There are a number of actions businesses can take to become more environmentally friendly. Taking steps to save energy and water will help the environment and also save businesses money.
Eco-friendly Washroom
A company’s washroom will be used frequently by staff and visitors to your premises. On average, people will use a washroom at least 3 times during the working day. The larger the company, the greater the number of times people are using washrooms. Taking steps to reduce water and energy usage in washrooms can save money and help reduce a company’s impact on the environment.
There are a number of different ways in which energy and water is used in a washroom. Flushing a toilet uses between 6-12 litres of water, then further water is needed to wash your hands. Drying hands will then require electricity for hand dryers or a supply of paper towels. It is easy to see how energy and water is used on a daily basis in washrooms, so what can your company do to save on energy and water usage?
